It’s finally here! The much-anticipated Tesla Powerwall 3 is now available in most of the U.S. (don’t worry homeowners in Puerto Rico and Hawaii will have theirs later this year). When it comes to battery storage for solar, Tesla sets the standard.
According to Tesla, the Powerwall 3 is “designed to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy.” Scroll below for an overview of what to expect from Tesla’s newest release.
First, a little bit about batteries
While you don’t need to add a battery to your Monalee project, a good percentage of our homeowners choose to make this additional investment. Whether or not to have a dedicated backup battery really comes down to personal preference, and you can always add one at a later date.
When you have a dedicated battery for your solar system, you’re able to achieve further savings through a type of billing tool called net metering. This system allows homeowners to sell their excess energy (the energy produced but wasn’t used) to the local grid and in return, they receive credits to use at a future date.
Achieving energy independence is another driving motivator for homeowners who are going solar. You don’t have to worry about rising electricity rates and, in the case of a power outage, they know they’re covered.
Finally, homes with solar—including a backup battery—are shown to increase in value by an average of 4.1-percent. Moving into a home with a system already in place means lower electric bills, no noise pollution (your standard generator is pretty loud) and creates less pollution than traditional fossil fuels do.
A Look at Powerwall 3
As we shared here, there are a few key features that set the Tesla Powerwall 3 apart from the rest. This new version offers between 20-30% more continuous power compared to the Tesla Powerwall Plus.
