How Monalee Works: Step 2

After a site survey is completed, our team compiles information from the survey and enters it into our internal portal.

From there, we loop in our design team so they can begin working on the most optimal solar panel design for the home. Photos from the site survey help our designers create the best layout for the panels given the homeowner’s electrical setup.

Preparing the design

For every new project, the goal is to create the most cost efficient design, as well as ensure that the project meets all current code requirements.

There are several things we look at when designing a homeowner’s solar setup. For example, we look at what navigational direction the roof is facing (e.g., a roof in the northern hemisphere that faces south will get the most sun and therefore will be the most efficient). We also take note of any trees or other structures that might cast the panels in shade throughout the day.

In some cases, a site survey will reveal that upgrades are needed. If this happens, it’s usually because the homeowner’s main panel is out of date or there isn’t enough room for the breakers.

If your site survey indicated that certain changes are required, don’t worry. We’ll create your design assuming that those changes will be implemented by the time of your installation. In short, any changes to your order won’t slow down our design process. 

Reviewing the design

Once we’ve created the solar design, we’ll send it off to the homeowner for approval. We ask that they review the solar design plan and request any changes within 48 hours. If we don’t hear back from them within 48 hours with any requested changes, we move forward with the proposed design.

Finalizing the design

When the homeowner signs off on the design, we start preparing their final design along with their permit application. Both are needed in order to move the project forward.
